HTSTL Shannon Workman
"To me wealth means having the ability and means to live life the way you choose, doing the activities you enjoy."

Shannon Workman grew up wanting to be a vet. She loved animals, she loved science, she loved the thought of putting it all together. However, by middle school, she also recognized that she did not love “the gross stuff” which put a damper on plans to head to vet school.

Instead, Shannon headed to University of Kansas (“Go Jayhawks!”) and graduated ready to work if not exactly sure where. Next step: through a temp agency, Shannon was placed at several different spots that allowed her to work hard and test the waters in different types of industries. When she landed at a financial services firm, she felt at home; this set her on a path to succeed in financial services.

Shannon has seen the industry from a number of angles. She sat on a trade desk for a bit in the time when trades were still shouted from the floor of the stock exchange; she trained on financial software — and enjoyed each spot. But when she met with Neal Furlong in his financial planning practice, again she felt at home. She’s been with Neal since 2008 as they joined Carol, and then Hightower, and has no plans to go anywhere (until retirement, for which her husband is pushing for some warmth in Florida and an end to St. Louis winters!)

Shannon’s down time is spent encouraging her sons; her eldest is headed off to college with both academic and athletic scholarships, and will quarterback the football team at Central Methodist University. Shannon’s been watching him from the sidelines since he started at age 7 and admits as he’s gotten older it’s been a bit more nerve-wracking to watch the tackles on the field! Her younger son is pursuing the safer, but equally busy sport of competitive swimming, having sowed his “danger oats” by getting his black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Shannon’s other great love are the mama and son dog duo the family adopted a few years ago; Mama dog helped train her son, and they are a happy pair!
